At the end of the month we will celebrate one of the greatest series of events that has ever taken place in the history of the Earth – the beating, crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus.
This series of events changed the course of history for all of eternity. I say “this series of events” because every aspect of what happened to Jesus has significance to us today. What He did was so complete, that after He had risen to the Father He sat down at the Father’s Right Hand signifying that all the work was completed. What that means for us is awesome. We don’t have to work to have God move on our behalf – Jesus already did all the work for us. Our only response is to believe that He is enough that He has taken all of God’s anger unto himself and now we get to receive all of God’s goodness.
It is interesting that Jesus was called “the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). What does that mean? God’s Holiness demands punishment for sin. It demands sacrifice. It demands blood. In the book of Hebrews it says it this way: “And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no remission.” (Heb 9:22) So under the old covenant those who needed remission of sin (which is everyone) had to bring a lamb that could be sacrificed for their sin. When the Lamb was brought to the priest, the priest would take the lamb and inspect it carefully to see if it had any imperfections. If the lamb had imperfections it would be rejected- that lamb had to be perfect. There is one thing the priest did not do – he did not inspect the person bringing the lamb for imperfections. His only concern was the perfection of the lamb brought for sacrifice. The God of the universe demanded a perfect lamb for a sacrifice, and Jesus was and is that perfect lamb. Jesus fully satisfied all of God’s wrath as the Lamb of God. So much so that God said in the book of Isaiah that if we put our faith in the sacrifice of Jesus He would never again be angry with us. "For this is like the waters of Noah to Me; For as I have sworn that the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, So have I sworn that I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you. For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has mercy on you.” (Isa 54:9-10) God is not inspecting you for perfection; He already inspected Jesus and found Him perfect. When you put your faith in Him and what He did God sees you as perfect. Our faith has to be based on the finished work of Jesus. It cannot be based on our performance.
For the next month I am offering a free download titled “The Three Aspects of Jesus’ Ministry.” In this message I go into great detail concerning the ministry, beating, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus. I believe if you listen to this message it will help you get a greater understanding of how complete the work of Jesus is.
We are continuing to expand the ministry; people’s lives are being touched in powerful ways. But I need your help to continue – if you would prayerfully consider partnering with us to get the message of Grace and Faith out to a hurting world I would greatly appreciate it. A gift of any amount helps us to continue to teach this message, to offer free downloads, and to expand into different venues. If you go to the donate page on the web site you can give a one time gift or a monthly donation. Every gift helps and we appreciate it very much.
You are a blessing, John
